Registration Process

The SAMBA Tournament has become very popular in the last 3 to 4 years and the number of teams has grown since we started to participate after the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Each year we try to improve the process and make it easier for local and international teams to register and share their information with us.

This year we would like to Register Teams Online, and later Register Players and Coaches Online.

Team Registration requires a payment that will secure the team in the schedule - R1,000 per team before the end of July. Payment can be made before then to secure your spot.

Player Registration will include uploading a photo ID and profile photo, and will also require the player’s date of birth and Jersey Number.

Player Registrations will open at the end of March and a Player Registration fee of R1,000 will need to be paid before the and of August to ensure that we have the needed funds to cover all the tournament expenses.

Teams may pay for their player’s as a team and we would encourage this to make the accounting and verification of payments more efficient. Team are requested to indicate the Name of the Team as a Reference when making payment.

The SA Master’s Basketball Association Banking details remain the same.

Please request an Invoice for any payments that you would need to have documentation for by contacting Adri du Bruin.

Tournament Info

The Host City for 2024 has been awarded to Durban, the warm Indian Ocean city of Kwa-Zulu Natal where basketball has been a big part of the schools and universities for decades and has produced some of South Africa’s finest talent.

Durban has hosted SAMBA before, and this year we hope that the tournament will be the biggest and best to date.

2024 will be a full 4 day tournament and will be hosted at the Howard College campus.

The campus boasts three indoor basketball courts and it has all the facilities we require on the campus to ensure that we are able to host a world-class tournament in September.

This year we are preparing to host 40 teams from 8 African Countries and we look forward to welcoming more than 500 players to Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The Tournament structure will be slightly different from 2023 in Cape Town in that there will be more games scheduled to be played and the tournament will run for 4 days, not 3 as in previous years.

Teams are required to Register Online and pay a registration fee before the end of July to secure their spot in the Tournament, and once the team is registered, players and coaches will be able to Register Online to complete the process.

Fees will increase less than 2% this year to accommodate the additional expenses for the extra day of competition and this will mean that Players pay R1,000 and Coaches R450.

Durban will host the tournament as the tropical climate and sea-level courts will mean that players, families and fans will have a lot to enjoy this year.

More information will follow with regards to the programme of events, registration and other details.
